Undergraduate Program

The training in Department of Economics focuses on boththe theoretical and practical aspects of Economics.
It is our goal to help students not only cultivate a deep understanding of economic theory, but also to develop
essential job skills over the courses of their undergraduate career. Students will go beyond economic principles,
improving their logical thinking, judgment, management ability, and communication skills. While students must
take a series of core courses in related economics fields to givet
hem a strong foundation, they are also granted
a great deal of freedom to choose additional courses based on their interests and chosen concentration.

The guiding principle of the department is to develop outstanding economists. Since the establishment of this
program, many students have gone on to prominent positions in the worlds of finance and economics, industry,
and academia after graduation. This is our highest honor and the greatest contribution we can give to our students
and society. We are constantly striving to improve the quality of instruction, expand department resources, and further
research in order to better serve our students and achieve our aim.

Master's Degree Program

The Master's Degree Program was established in 2000 as an alternative to the majority of economics master's programs
in Taiwan, which base their curriculum on the analysis of mathematical models. At Tunghai, the master's degree coursework
in economics focuses on the practical applications of the subject, stressing the intersection of economics and industry.

After graduating from the program, students will be proficient in the tools and mathematical models used for economic analysis.
However, beyond this theoretical foundation, they will also gain an understanding of the inner workings of the corporate world,
and the characteristics and development of specific industries, as well as recent developments in global financial markets.

The department has an open approach towards applicants to the master's program. Currently accepted graduate students have
varied backgrounds, with undergraduate degrees in fields such as mathematics, finance, and economics. There are ten new
students accepted into the program each year.
